6. 4. 3 　 由“ 名词+ of” 构成 的 量词

 
1) 这类 量词 为数 很多， 它们 都 加在 所 修饰 词 前面： 
A lot of people have the same experience. 大量 的 人有 同样 的 经历。 
I have lived here quite a number of years. 我 在这里 住了 许 多年 了。 
She had plenty of imagination. 她有 丰富 的 想像力。 
We need a sufficient amount of flour. 我们 需要 足 够量 的 面粉。
 A good many of them are beginners. 他们 很多人 都是 初学者。
 He lost a great quantity of blood. 他 失血 很多。 
 We walked a couple of miles. 我们 步行 了 二三 英里。 
 She had a heap of trouble. 她有 很多 麻烦事。 
 I have a ton of work to do before I leave. 我走 之前 有大 量 工作 要做。 
 She bears a load of anxiety. 她 忧心忡忡。
 I' ve a mass of things to see to this morning. 今天 上午 我有 很 多事 要 办。 
 
 有些 这类 名词 可用 复数 形式， 强调 数量 之多： 
 Numbers of people came to the meeting. 与会者 人数众多。 
 We' ve had quantities of rain this summer. 今年 夏天 下了 大量 的 雨。 
 I' ve got tons of letters to write. 我有 好多 好 多的 信 要 写。
 She bought lots of food. 她 买了 大量 的 食物。
 That man seems to have heaps of money. 那个人 似乎 钱多 的 不得了。
 There are masses of people in the hall. 大厅 里 有好 多人。 
 
 
 2) 有些 这类 量词 表示“ 少量 的”：
 She is just out to do a bit of shopping. 她 只是 出来 买点 东西。
 He put a pinch of salt in his soup. 他在 汤 里 放了 一点点 盐。
 She has a touch of cold. 她 略微 有点 感冒。
 A dash of vinegar might help the salad. 生菜 里 加 一点 醋 也许 更 好吃。 
 Have a spot of tea. 喝 一点 茶 吧。
 There' s not a shred of evidence that he took the money. 没有 丝毫 证据 表明 钱 是他 拿 的。 
 There is a grain of truth in his assertion. 他的 话 有 一点 真实性。 
 There was a trace of jealousy in her voice. 她的 声音 里 有 一丝 妒忌 情绪。
 There is not a speck of truth in his claim. 他的 话 毫无 真实 之处。 
 Will you have a drop of brandy? 你要 不要 喝 一点点 白兰地？

 3) 有些 这类 量词 与 形状 有关：
I need a ball of string. 我 需要 一团 线。 
 He was sucking a stick of toffee. 他在 吮吸 一 根 棒 糖。
 The president was surrounded by a ring of bodyguards. 总统 身边 围着 一圈 保镖。
 There is a strip of sticky tape round the lid. 盖子 周边 有 一条 胶带。 
 A shaft of sunlight brightened the room. 一道 阳光 照亮 了 房间。
 Elli brought a bunch of flowers. 艾 丽 带来 了 一束 花。 
 A thread of light emerged from the keyhole. 从 钥匙孔 透 进 一丝 亮光。
 A goat has a tuft of hair on its chin. 山羊 下巴 上 长有 一撮 胡须。
 A wall of fire stood before them. 他们 面前 有一堵 火墙。
 There was a gush of blood as his wound re- opened. 他的 伤口 重开 时 血流如注。 
 A loud gust of laughter came from the next room. 从 隔壁 房间 传来 一阵 笑声。

 She has a mountain of dirty clothes to wash. 她有 一大堆 脏 衣服 要洗。

 4) 还有 不少 量词 表示 一群人（ a） 或 动物（ b）： 
 a.

A group of students asked to see the principal. 有 一群 学生 要见 校长。
 The discovery was made by a team of scientists. 这是 由 一组 科学家 发现 的。 
 A gang of workers were repairing the road. 一伙 工人 在 修 马路。
 You' re behaving like a bunch of idiots. 你们的 举动 像 一群 白痴。 
 A company of travellers are expected to arrive soon. 一批 游客 预计 不久 就要 到来。
 A troupe of acrobats entertained them. 一群 杂技 演员 为他 们 作了 表演。

A strange collection of people attended the party. 一伙 稀奇古怪 的 人参 加了 这个 聚会。
 She' s always surrounded by swarms of photographers. 她 身边 总是 围着 一大群 摄影师。 
 A pack of angry shoppers demanded their money back. 一群 生气 的 顾客 要求 退钱。

A flock of sheep blocked the road. 一群 绵羊 挡住 了 道路。
 The lion was chasing a herd of deer. 那 头 狮子 在 追逐 一群 鹿。
 A pack of hounds chased the fox. 一群 猎犬 在 追赶 狐狸。
 We saw a pride of lions resting by the stream. 我们 看见 一群 狮子 在 溪 边 休息。

有些 名词 后 可加 词尾- ful 来 表示 数量：
 a spoonful of vinegar 　 一 勺 醋

 a mouthful of food 　 一口 食物
 an armful of flowers 　 一 捧 花
 a houseful of guests 　 一屋 子 客人

6. 4. 4 　 一些 与 数量 有关 的 词 
1) 一些 与 数量 有关 的 形容词： 有 不少 形容词 与 数量 有关：
 The thesis was about two hundred pages long. 这篇 论文 约 有两 百 页长。
 The tree is a hundred feet tall. 那 棵树 有 一百 英尺高。 
 The road is 8 metres wide. 这条 马路 有 八 米 宽。
 The lake there is eight feet deep. 那里 的 湖 有 八 英尺 深。

The river is 30 feet broad. 这条 河 宽 三十 英尺。
 The outer wall is twelve feet thick. 外墙 厚 十二 英尺。
 The building is over thirty stories high. 这座 大楼 有 三十 多 层高。

 2) 一些 与 数量 有关 的 名词： a. 有 许多 单位 名称 经常 和数 词 连用 表示 数量：
 It weighs over 200 kilos. 它 重 二百 多 公斤。 
The temperature rose ten degrees. 气温 上 升了 十 度。 
There are sixteen ounces in one pound. 一 英 磅 有 十六 英两。 
A pint of liquid is about four cupfuls. 一 品脱 约有 四 杯。
 Will two yards of dress material be enough? 两码 衣料 够了 吗？ 
 It travels thousands of miles per second. 它 一 秒钟 能 走 几千 英里。

 b. 也有 些 名词 和 in 连用， 表示 数量： The snow is two feet in depth. 雪 有两 尺 厚。 
 He was about five feet in height. 他 身高 约 五 英尺。 
 The island is only 4 square kilometres in area. 这座 岛 的 面积 只有 四平 方 千米。
 The river is thirty miles in length. 这条 河 有 三十 英里 长。
 The parcel is 2 pounds in weight. 这 包裹 重 两 磅。
 The room is 12 feet in width. 房间 宽 12 英尺。

 3) 也有 一些 表示 数量 的：
