去年11月、福島市で車を運転中で暴走させて歩行者など5人を死傷させた罪に問われた97歳の被告に対し、

福島地方裁判所は「免許を返納するなどして運転を控えるべきだった」などと指摘し、執行猶予のついた禁錮3年の判決を言い渡しました。

 Last November, a 97-year-old defendant was charged with driving a car in Fukushima City and driving a car out of control, killing and injuring five people, including pedestrians.

The Fukushima District Court handed down a sentence of three years in prison with a suspended sentence, pointing out that he should have returned his license and refrained from driving.

福島市の波汐國芳被告（97）は去年11月、市内で軽自動車を運転中、ブレーキとアクセルを踏み間違えて歩道に乗り上げ、歩いていたの42歳の女性をはねて死亡させたほか、信号待ちしていた複数の車に次々に衝突し、4人にけがをさせたとして、過失運転致死傷の罪に問われました。

In November last year, Kuniyoshi Namishio (97) of Fukushima City, while driving a light car in the city, mistakenly stepped on the brake and accelerator, ran onto the sidewalk, and killed a 42-year-old woman who was walking. In addition, he was charged with negligent driving resulting in death and injury after colliding with multiple cars waiting at a traffic light one after another and injuring four people.

今日の判決で、福島地方裁判所の三浦隆昭裁判長は「被告はいわゆる超高齢者で、安全に運転するのに必要な判断能力や運動能力に衰えがあった。

そもそも元気なうちに免許を返納するなどして運転を控えるべきだった」と指摘しました。

In today's ruling, Presiding Judge Takaaki Miura of the Fukushima District Court said, "The defendant was a so-called super-elderly person who had a decline in the judgment and athletic ability necessary to drive safely.

In the first place, he should have returned his license while still in good health and refrained from driving."

一方で「被告は衰えを自覚して、ふだんは速度を落として運転することなどを心がけていた」などとして禁錮3年、執行猶予5年を言い渡しました。

また裁判長は判決の中で「高齢者がみずから運転せずとも不便を感じることなく生活できる社会の構築が望まれる」と述べました。
